Why Crossfit Loveland

karli“Crossfit Loveland is different than any other gym that I have attended. The coaches and members support, educate and encourage me. It truly is a family.”

Today I said “see ya later” to the best community and second family a girl could ever ask for! These last 4.5 years with CrossFit Loveland have been crazy! Our wonderful coaches have seen me through the worst of times and helped being me to the best! I wholly attribute my confidence and strength to our family and it’s scary to think where I’d be without you all!! Theresa, thank you for your continuous support throughout the years! Your conversations with me have had a greater impact than you could ever imagine. David, thank you for your intense programming and making me grind through even the toughest WODs!! Thank you both for fostering not only my physical health, but also my spiritual and emotional health! It’s not often that you find coaches willing to pray with you! Mark, you are one amazing coach! I could never thank you enough for putting those extra plates on my bar when I wasn’t looking and all the individual attention that you gave me in and outside of the gym! And family, thank you for your community and camaraderie! Lord knows that your shining, sweaty faces are a huge part of the reason that I dragged my self through all Dave’s intense programming!

As I head to Army Basic Training today, I know that I have not just a community, but a true family behind me! Thank you guys

I have been a fairly faithful MWF 6 a.m. crew member for the past 27 months, somewhat early on in the process my son starting dropping in with me once in a blue moon.  He loved it. From day one you went out of your way to make him feel welcome.
Twelve months ago he showed up to his first day of football practice with a lot of desire to play football. He had played flag football for two seasons and had some mild success with it but now on the field with the tackle football team he was an outsider. See most of these kids had already been playing together for 3 years, and since my son is home schooled he just didn’t know any of his team mates or the coaches from school. Oh, and he didn’t know how to play they way they expected.  None of this really discouraged him, even though it discouraged me…
The season goes on and he puts the work in and the last three games of the year he earned a place to start.  Then the “off season”.  We spoke about how rough the first half of the season was and how much better it would be if he came into this year fitter. In the winter I scripted him some mini WOD’s using what we had at home, rowing, jumping rope, push ups and such. If I wrote it down he would do it.  As spring rolled around I offered to bring him to the gym over the summer.  He went all in.  I must say at 11 years old if my Dad would have tried to get me up at 5:30 three days a week for anything, that would have lasted about 4 days.
As the summer went along my prayer was, Lord let this kid learn the life lesson now – hard work pays off.  My fear was… that the first practice would still be a miserable experience and he would have to wonder if it was worth it.
Fast forward, first week of practice this year… Wow! Not only had he grown 3 inches but turns out Crossfit works for growing boys. Surprise, right?
Kids are barfing, kids are crying, kids are quitting… Drill after drill the boy rises to the top.  He doesn’t start out first, but finishes first. A 40 yard shuttle run with push ups is murder to those kids… to my son it is just Crossfit.  Through the summer he saw that ugly place where his mind told him to quit, he doesn’t fear it he smashes through it like all Crossfitters learn to do. He is physically stronger and mentally tougher and everyone has noticed. The contrast of his fitness compared to his team mates is stark.
Listen, we are not naturally athletic in our family and the only thing I had to hand down to my kids was the concept of having “a motor”.  I often quote to them the adage made popular by Tim Tebow, “hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard”. Thanks to your support and the support of our class the kid has found his motor and his Dad did not have to explain to him why his hard work didn’t pay off. He has a long way to go as a football player in developing his skills, but now he can give all his focus to that.
