When talking about core strength, people start thinking about rolling around on a ball. One of the best exercise for (core strength) trunk strength is the weighted overhead squat. You need to have a plan on how to breathe and keep tight instead of just dropping into a squat. If you get into a compromised position you can't fix your position under load.

10 1 arm DB power snatches (5 each arm) 20% of body weight (scale down if needed)
